Out From Under – Demos from 1992-1993

Out from Under
Demos from 1992-1993
Santa Ana, California, USA

While looking through videos on YouTube with Blah demos in them, I found that the drummer for Blah had also been in a band called Out From Under and he had also added videos for their songs as well. Again, these are “all songs in one video” kind of posts, but still a great source of rare music. They have two actual demos that I know of (Face to Face from 1993, and Romans 8:1, 2 from 1994), but these seem to be earlier versions of those. The first collection is an assortment of songs recorded at different times – the ones from 1993 match their 1993 demo, but in a different order, while the second set has some songs from their 1994 demo. Much earlier versions I guess? Or maybe the 1994 demo is a collection of older unreleased tunes?

Jeff Turner – Lead Vocals
Mike (Crash) McChesney – Lead Guitar/Vocals
Rick (Huh) LeBlanc – Rhythm Guitar/Backup Vocals
Darrell (Lemme) Leach – Drums/Backup Vocals
Frank (The Cat) Felix – Bass Guitar/Backup Vocals
Tony – Bass Guitar

Songs (Recorded at South Coast Recording Studios, Santa Ana, California, circa 1993):

  1. Under The Law – Studio (Unmixed)
  2. Eyes Up – Studio (Unmixed)
  3. Deceiver – Studio (Unmixed)
  4. You Need Jesus – Studio (Unmixed)
  5. Rider – Studio (Unmixed)
  6. Face To Face – Studio (Instrumental/Unmixed)

Songs (Recorded at ARTI Studio, Anaheim, California, circa 1992):

  1. Everyone Needs a Prayer – Mixed Demo
  2. Lies – Mixed Demo
  3. Same Old Games – Mixed Demo
  4. Heavenly Thoughts – Mixed Demo

“Under the Law” is an Apologetix-like spoof of “Breakin’ the Law” by Judas Priest. The rest is faster alternative rock with vocals that remind me of Dig Hay Zoose. The description says “punk rock,” but not really except for the occasional break down.

Next up is a collection of unmixed demos from 1992. These songs mostly cover the 1994 demo, with a couple of live songs at the end. This is in the same vein as the demos above – faster alternative rock that borders on heavy metal at times. A different vocalist is listed on these songs, and he sounds less like Dig Hay Zoose on this demo. At some point I will have to pull out the official demos and see how the songs compare – but there are at least a few different versions, unmixed demos, and live cuts in these sets.
