King’s Gate – Demo Tape

King’s Gate
Demo Tape
1991 (no label)
Whitesboro, New York, USA

  1. Skid Row
  2. Things to Fight For
  3. She Won’t Cry

This is a simple looking demo – just a tape in a clam shell with a detached card for a cover and an address label on the tape. But the first song is a blazing commercial metal track that leans towards power metal with a killer hook. The second song starts off like a ballad, but builds into a mid-range rocker power ballad. The third song is also a ballad – still on the power ballad side, but also a bit more mellow than the second song. The first track has male lead vocals, while the second two have female lead vocals. This appears to be the same band that released Drive the Spike in 1990, but they seem to have dropped any progressive metal influences that were on that tape. All of these songs were also on that demo, but better versions are found here. Some website refer to this demo as “Demo from Driving the Spike.”
