This was one of my top wanted demos for years. I did finally get some mp3s recently, but now I get to convert the actual tape 🙂 Godfear started off as a heavy progressive metal band called Transcendence that released one demo in 1992. They changed names and styles before putting out this demo. After this demo, they released two full length groove/thrash metal CDs (with Pantera being an influence). Even those that are not groove/thrash metal fans feel they did a good job on those CDs. This tape is really a transition between progressive metal and groove metal. It has the guitar solos and some song structures of progressive metal, but adds in some killer grooves and gruff/shouted groove metal vocals (with some clean vocals here and there). This is about as professional as demos get – great cover art, detailed and complete liner notes, and almost a full-length number of songs to really give you a full sense of the band’s sound. There is a bit of extra loud tape noise on here, but that is about the only negative. Killer grooves and intensity abounds. I don’t think any of these songs made it onto their full-length CD The Empty… which I used to have, but have sadly lost. Time to hit eBay!
