English band Stairway came to most metal heads attention due to their inclusion on the 1991 compilation album White Metal Warriors – Last Ship Home. They then released their first full length No Rest – No Mercy in 1993, and have been releasing albums on and off since then. But the band actually started in 1978, recording their first two song demo in 1985. Those two songs have been shared in various places, including being released on their 2015 The Demo Sessions ep (still available on BandCamp). The sound here is early NWOBHM sound that was popular in England and other places at the time. Their sound is the forerunner to styles like power metal and traditional metal. BTW – I’m not sure of the source of the third track on The Demo Sessions, but tracks 4 and 5 were recorded live in 1993. Of those live tracks, it seems that “Can’t You See” was never recorded elsewhere.
