This was a bit of a mystery tape until I played it. It is just labeled as “The Pearl,” which was a Mark Krischak band. But it has a letter in it from Jerry Andrews of The Children writing to Dan Kennedy of The Cutting Edge to say he is sorry that Kennedy didn’t get a tape Andrews sent. Did Andrews also have a tape called “The Pearl”? Nope – this is just Andrews sending a copy of Krischak’s band. The only difference between this tape and the official release on Key Records (pictured below) is that “I Saw You” and “Something” are switched in the order, and side 2 starts with “One Step Closer.” Also, there seems to be some of the intro to “I Saw You” that is cut off here. Andrews also added a country song on the end that I would assume is Krischak’s band The High Plains Drifters. The Pearl itself was a catchy alternative-leaning power pop-ish band.
